The mission

During a quiet week in the studio we challenged ourselves with creating a concept of a tech magazine. Our main focus was to develop an art style that can live within an editorial space, assisting large amounts of information around the tech industry. So much can be visually represented through illustration, especially when trying to explain complex ideas.

With the magazine focusing on teaching people about various areas of technology, from new device releases to lessons for 'newbies', we wanted to create a range of illustrations that feel playful and welcoming regardless of the subject matter.

We took this opportunity to imagine two separate illustration styles that can fit together cohesively whilst being used in different contexts. The first of which is more playful and approachable, to be used across the majority of the magazine's deliverables. The second would then be included within the magazine itself to assist particular editorial pieces.

Conclusion?

Balancing the two illustration styles was both the most challenging and exciting part of the project. They work seamlessly together throughout the magazine's brand identity, helping to enhance the messaging in an imaginative way.

We used blue and green throughout as these are colours commonly associated with the tech industry. The subtle use of shapes and gradients within the magazine add further character to the brand without interfering with the imagery or copy.

The beauty of a concept project is we get to learn about subjects and industries we might not be completely familiar with. We always welcome the opportunity to collaborate with these kinds of brands, starting with extensive research to help us identify a solid vision of how the final product could look.
