Touching Shoulders is a music event brand based in Bristol that centres their nights around creating a positive and community-led atmosphere.
The mission
Touching Shoulders came to us, envisioning a fresh visual identity to match their new direction in Bristol's lively music scene. Their focus is creating inclusive, community-led events showcasing different types of music that change and evolve each time.
We decided to create a brand that encapsulates their personality while making sure it can remain consistent across all of their output regardless of genres and trends.
During our ideation process for a rebrand we don't always prioritise solidifying the logo first, but it seemed essential within this project as they plan to use it across almost all of their output.
The direction we took very early on was looking at ways of combining two figures to symbolise people connecting at their events - 'touching shoulders' if you will!
Conclusion?
Working closely with Touching Shoulders we decided on an overall look heavily inspired by tribal art, leaning even further into their mission of creating inclusive and collective-based environments.
Along with the main icon we developed a wide range of assets and templates for them to use, including a group of illustrations that further cement their identity.
With the majority of their social media presence consisting of photography and videos from their events it was important for us to create elements that compliment their human-first content. The choice to use yellow as their main colour helps to cut through the dark environments their footage is often taken in while exhibiting a warm and exciting temperament.

I'm so overjoyed with what Ross has delivered that I can't wait to show it off on every item of merch I can think of. My rebrand has had numerous compliments, from punters, promoters and DJs.
The artistic direction he gave to me was incredibly helpful, and he was more than happy to go over more and more renditions until we found one suitable. My main criteria was to have something simple & flexible, yet stand out as a central design too. He clearly smashed this, as the following artwork he drew up fell into place so effortlessly.
